Writing Center

Welcome to the BC Writing Center!

The Writing Center is open from September 8, 2025 鈥 December 18, 2025.

Book an Appointment

Located in Stokes 418S, the BC Writing Center offers one-on-one conferences to BC undergraduates looking for help with their writing and written assignments. Our specialists (see below) are trained peers who can help you brainstorm, analyze, and revise your papers, essays, reports, and creative pieces. We work with assignments from multiple subjects (not just English courses) and also offer support for multilingual students. We are not a proofreading service and as such go beyond simply editing a paper just before it's due. Our goal is to work with you to improve your writing and help you become a more confident student in the process.

Appointments are scheduled for fifty minutes, and are available in Stokes 418S, virtually, or in the Ashby Center Learning Commons on the Messina Campus. To see available times and make an appointment, select 鈥淪chedule an Appointment with an Academic Support Office鈥 on your Navigate homepage.

Sarah Cook

Hi everyone! I鈥檓 Sarah, a senior from Madison, Wisconsin studying English and finance. On campus I鈥檓 involved with Camp Kesem at Chestnut Hill as a co-director, but you can also find me at an early morning yoga class or chef-ing it up with my roommates. While I have taken courses in creative writing, my strengths lie in crafting effective and well-organized analytical essays. Whether you鈥檙e discussing a film, literary piece, environmental issue, or historical trend, I can help you apply these writing skills to any subject you鈥檙e passionate about (or help you find that engagement). From working as an editor-in-chief to collaborating in peer review-based seminars, I truly enjoy learning from the ideas of others and want to support you in creating your best work!

Jessica Cruz-Lopez

Hi, my name is Jessica Cruz-Lopez, and I am a junior from Morristown, NJ! I am studying English and Sociology. On campus, you鈥檒l see me at the Career Center as a Front Desk Ambassador and as one of the Co-Directors of El Principio, a mentorship program through the Organization of Latin American Affairs. Being an English major, I have the opportunity to explore who I am as a reader and writer. Since I was little, I鈥檝e loved reading鈥擟am Jansen, Rainbow Magic鈥擨 couldn't wait to get my hands on another book. My first language was Spanish and I was intimidated by how complex I felt English was, but reading helped me finally slow it down and take my time. I'm happy to meet with students who also want to explore their voice through writing, especially multilingual students who want to meet with someone who has gone through that journey. I hope that when students visit the Writing Center, we鈥檙e able to meet about preserving their voice and that I am someone who will believe in them as a writer. Your voice doesn鈥檛 have to clash with scholarly requirements; instead, it can be in conversation with them!

Elena Fiorentinos

Hello! My name is Elena Fiorentinos, a sophomore from Northern New Jersey. I was born and raised in Queens, New York, but moved to New Jersey around high school. I'm double majoring in Business Analytics and English. Writing has always been a part of my life and development as a student since I learned to read and write. I always felt as though there was nothing that came more naturally to me than writing and reading. Even with this passion, my English teachers have always encouraged me to hone and refine my writing style and my goal is to share that same feeling and enthusiasm for English with others. There is always room for improvement and creativity for me, even in other languages. I'm proficient in Spanish and conversational in Greek, although I do know how to read and write Greek as well, so other languages and the difficulties of translating words is something I completely understand and resonate with. Helping others with translating and understanding other languages is something I have grown up doing and love to do!

My name is听Emmbrooke听and I was born in California, grew up in Florida, and currently live in Massachusetts. Even though I experienced many different cultures growing up, I always found writing to be the most meaningful form of communication. To me, writing is a direct gateway into a person's mind and soul in a way that other mediums cannot capture. My approach to tutoring is very collaborative and student-led. Here at BC, I explore my love of writing through studying political science and I also write as a columnist for the Heights, am a member of the Swing Dance team, and a Campus engagement coordinator for CAB.听

Kayla Hall

Hi everyone! My name is Kayla and I am a senior double majoring in English and International Studies. I鈥檝e loved reading and writing for majority of my life, but I wasn鈥檛 sure I wanted to study English until my senior year of high school. I was an intern for Post Road Magazine, for two years, and a research assistant for Professor Peter Krause鈥檚 Political Violence Team for one. Considering I picked up the International Studies major the spring of my Sophomore year and had to adjust to a different way of writing, I definitely understand how it feels to abruptly change how you approach writing, and I hope I can make that experience less jarring. My main goal is to help people feel comfortable expressing their ideas without removing their voice in their writing, and to be a soundboard for any ideas for upcoming assignments!

Nick Huempfner

Hi everyone! My name is Nick, and I鈥檓 a senior from Glastonbury, Connecticut. I鈥檓 a Pre-Med student majoring in Biology with a minor in English. Outside of the classroom, you can find me responding to medical emergencies on campus with BCEMS, volunteering at blood drives with the BC Red Cross, conducting clinical psychiatry research at MGH, or training in the Plex for my next powerlifting meet! With interests that span both the sciences and the humanities, I鈥檝e worked across a range of writing styles in various academic domains, all the way from analytical essays and scientific reports to poetry and creative nonfiction. My writing process blends these influences, as I value the clarity and structure of scientific writing, the precision of analytical argument, and the emotional resonance of creative work. As a writing center specialist, I take a collaborative and curiosity-driven approach. My goal is to create a space where you feel confident exploring ideas, taking creative risks, and refining your voice within the constraints of your assignment. Whether you鈥檙e brainstorming ideas, responding to feedback, or polishing a final draft, I鈥檒l meet you where you are and help you build both confidence and control in your writing.

Jesse Julian

Hi! I鈥檓 Jesse (she/her), a senior at BC. Born and raised in Southern California, I've come to md传媒国产剧 in pursuit of a B.A. in English & Philosophy with a minor in Medical Humanities. I constantly challenge myself to expand my writing range. On-campus, I鈥檓 the editor-in-chief of the Medical Humanities Journal, the inaugural Poet Laureate of the Schiller Institute, a satirist for the New England Classic, and an Honors thesis writer. Off-campus, I鈥檓 the Publishing Intern at a nonprofit youth writing center called 826 md传媒国产剧. Outside of academics, I manage a caf茅, hunt for skirts at thrift stores, and get way too invested in escape rooms.

Enough about me鈥攎ore importantly, I鈥檓 enthusiastic about reading your writing! I鈥檝e revised essays, but I have also edited poetry, academic research, honors theses, internship applications, and more. I have experience in both the humanities and sciences, and I enjoy reading pieces with interdisciplinary听topics. I can鈥檛 wait to read what you have to say at the Writing Center!

Hello Everybody! My name is Quinn Kirchner, I鈥檓 a senior from Rockville, Maryland. I鈥檓 a double English and Economics major. Outside of studying, I have a radio show and am a rock director for WZBC. I also participate and am on the board of the Effective Altruism club. In my free time, I love to go on runs, read, and hang out with my friends. I have always loved writing and helping my friends and family with their writing because writing allows myself and others to express themselves and develop a unique voice. My specialties are in argumentative writing but creative writing is also a significant area of interest for me, allowing me to help explore imaginative storytelling and diverse narrative styles. Sharing one鈥檚 writing can be a vulnerable experience. That being said, my goal in the writing center is to be encouraging and helpful to help others find their voice. I hope to share my passion for writing with everyone I work with!

Hi! My name is Kate Kissel and I鈥檓 from Skaneateles, NY. I鈥檓 a junior at BC majoring in English and minoring in general business. My major involvement at BC is The Heights, where I am an editor for the Magazine section. Before coming to BC I knew that I was interested in writing, but it wasn鈥檛 until I finished First Year Writing and realized that my time writing papers might be up that I decided to become an English major and seek out other opportunities to enhance my writing skills. Now, I feel like I鈥檓 always writing, whether it be for class, The Heights, or independently. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with others on structuring, cohesion, voice, and any other aspect of the writing process.

I honestly didn't think I enjoyed writing until I came to college and developed a writing process that helps me produce work I'm proud of. Writing is a foundational skill in all academic disciplines and I hope to be able to lend a hand to anyone who would like a new perspective on their writing! Outside of the writing center, I also work in the nursing building and O'Neill and I'm involved in 4md传媒国产剧 and Project Sunshine.

Hi everyone! My name is Katie, and I鈥檓 a junior double-majoring in Math and English. I grew up in North Reading, Massachusetts, and currently live on Cape Cod. On campus, I鈥檓 involved in Gusto, Cooking Club, and I tutor for the Neighborhood Center. I鈥檓 also a dedicated intramural pickleball player, and you can usually find me doing homework with friends in 245 Beacon. I love writing because every paper is a draft; there鈥檚 no single 鈥渞ight鈥 way to express your ideas. I鈥檓 a firm believer that writing is mostly about revision, and that your first words don鈥檛 need to be anywhere near perfect. Whether you鈥檙e brainstorming, outlining, or polishing a final draft, I鈥檓 happy to help at any stage in the process. I especially enjoy working on argumentative essays, focusing on structure and clarity to develop strong, interesting claims. I love getting to know new people and reading different voices, and I鈥檇 be excited to work with you on whatever you're writing!

Hi! My name is Lindsay, and I鈥檓 a sophomore in CSOM studying Marketing and Philosophy on the Pre-Law Track. Outside of academics, I play the violin in the md传媒国产剧 College Symphony Orchestra, and I love drawing and painting. My approach to writing has always been centered around effective communication and ensuring the right message reaches the right audience. This is why I typically focus on the big picture of a written piece rather than immediately editing smaller details. I would love to offer help with creating an outline, editing a draft, polishing a final piece, or anything that comes up along your writing process! A lot of my experience comes from writing academic and persuasive pieces, as well as legal and statistical reports. I have also been involved in public speaking for over 5 years, so I have additional experience in writing spoken pieces and presentation scripts. I am fluent in both English and French, so I would be happy to help with questions in either language!

Lola Milazzo

I'm Lola Milazzo, a senior from Westchester, New York double majoring in English and Political Science! On campus, I'm involved in the Bellarmine Law Review and the Music Guild in addition to being a writing tutor at The Connors Family Learning Center. This is my first year working at the Writing Center, and I am so excited to help more students to express themselves through writing. While studying Political Science has helped me to learn to write more succinctly and effectively, in addition to learning how to write in a number of different formats, studying English has allowed me to develop my creativity and analytical skills, especially concerning fiction and poetry. Inside and outside of my studies, I often take part in creative writing and have even had some works published in online journals. This experience has allowed me to discover my voice and flair as a writer, not just in creative pieces, but also in any academic format that I am tasked to complete. I am inspired to help students find their own voices through writing and to craft papers that not only reflect who they are as academics, but who they are as whole people as well.

My name is Daniela Ortiz, and I am a sophomore from Roswell, Georgia. I am currently an English and History double major, and I hope to add on an International Studies minor in the future. On campus, I have been involved with the theater department and am a member of the Stride program. I have also written for one of BC's literary magazines, Laughing Medusa. In terms of writing specialties, I largely focus on creative writing, but I have experience with longer, structured research papers as well. Therefore, I am happy to help tackle any challenge you may be facing with your writing, whether you're looking for minor tweaks, grammar checking, or a completely fresh start. I have always loved writing as I believe it unlocks entirely new worlds in terms of connections with others and imagination, and I hope that, by lending a helping hand at the Writing Center, I can help unlock that same love of writing in others. Please feel free to make an appointment!

Elizabeth Pozniakova

Hi all! I am Elizabeth Pozniakova, and I am studying Biology and English. On campus, I am a Hatchery (Makerspace) team member and trainer, a founding member of the BC Ukrainian Club, and collate data for literature reviews on BRCA gene mutations. Off-campus, I volunteer at a clinic that assists md传媒国产剧鈥檚 homeless population with medical care. Scientific language is often assumed to be vapid, and while this is a valid case, writing is essential to articulating and charting the course of groundbreaking research. My natural preference for creative and narrative writing proved useful in my hard science courses after all! I argue it could be just as essential to your domain as well. As soon as I realized that writing can be transposable, I was no longer daunted by any genre or style of writing required of my classes. We all have a distinct voice, and I look forward to helping you preserve yours while adhering to the many structural and conventional constraints of academic writing鈥 especially generating ideas for a streamlined process through conversation.

I'm Matt, an English and Economics major here at BC. I'm also on the e-board of WZBC and the Parliamentary Debate Union of md传媒国产剧 College. I've been tutoring writing since high school, working with students of all ages, backgrounds, and strengths. I'm very passionate about both argumentative and creative writing, so I'd love to assist with either. My tutoring style features a strong "top-down" approach, in which I help students focus and refine their big ideas into a discernible essay structure before tackling the actual writing process. The revision grows increasingly granular as the student gains more confidence with their writing. I believe that while mechanics can always be polished, the real priority is helping students to express their ideas clearly and effectively on paper.

Hi, I鈥檓 Leah! I鈥檓 a senior Communication major with minors in English, Marketing, and Jewish studies. On campus, you can usually find me in The Heights office where I edit for the arts section, playing intramural volleyball, or in the Rat. In my free time, I love hiking, cooking, and graphic design. I have always loved creative writing, but it wasn鈥檛 until coming to BC that I had the chance to enjoy more analytical writing. At first, I struggled with formal writing because I felt it lacked so much of my distinct writing voice鈥 but I鈥檝e learned to blend my creative process with more structured essay planning, and I look forward to helping others do the same. Good communication skills are important no matter what interest you want to pursue, and I think good writing begins with a desire to share your interests (even if you鈥檙e not an English major)!

HI! My name is Fisher Xiong, and I am a senior majoring in history and political science. As a writer, I have practiced both academic and creative writings (primarily the former) in the past, but I would not call myself an expert of any kind. Like you, I am simply a student of writing, attracted by its potentials, fascinated by its diversity. For me, to write is to communicate: to form an opinion and use language to materialize it so that others may receive it, a process that links minds. I enjoy writing, and I would like to learn more about different ideas, which is why I am here to help those in need and to exchange perspectives to create something greater. I am fluent in both English and mandarin Chinese, so my sessions can be done in whichever one you prefer. Through communicating, I hope we can both grow as writers and leave with new insights.

Hi! My name is Fiona, and I am from right here in md传媒国产剧. I am a sophomore studying Political Science and History, so most of the writing I do consists of analytical essays and research papers. While these are areas of writing I have grown comfortable in, I believe the purpose of writing should always be to push us a little out of our comfort zones. Outside of academics, I鈥檝e been reconnecting with my personal voice through creative writing. Over the past two summers, I鈥檝e focused on scriptwriting and directing short films based on the stories I鈥檝e written. I know that the hardest part of any form of writing is always the first word, and I hope that together we can create a space where you feel confident and supported in getting that first word out.
